How do aboriginal communities deal with the after effects of war and conflict?
It seems that they had good and healthy ways of dealing with other issues that we in modernity can not deal with. For example, menstruation, spirituality and coming of age. I heard a victory song sung by a native peoples here in Vancouver, I can not remember what tribe, when the man hit his drum and sang the vibration of the sound hit the core of my being. His voice reached out like a fist protesting death right into my soul and held it.
It was Powerful.
Even if they do have a way of dealing with the after effects of war the aboriginal people that I have idealized did not have to deal with the evils that we as an uncivilized world have created.
Well that is until we rapped them.
I am sitting in the emotion of conflict and its affects on family as I write. The affects that war has on a people is so pronounced. I have a friend and he was deployed with the Canadian army in Afghanistan. When he was away I would pray for his safe return, now he is home and I pray that he is safe from himself.
Men sit in boardrooms and talk in theory while people around them die. They sell a bill or rights to young men and women who set off with hope in their eyes, only to return. Return afraid to close their eyes because they might see what we can not.
How do we learn?
When will we learn?
